Building Connections Between Families, Professionals, and Institutions in a Fragmented World
The past decade has been marked by a rise in individualism in Western and urban societies. This trend has been characterized by ever-increasing expectations focused on individual responsibility, which has contributed to the social stigmatization and marginalization of individuals. As a result, mental health care, educational interventions, and even school-based interventions are increasingly focused on “individual” diagnosis, “individual” care, and “individual” adjustment.
In this increasingly harsh and polarized context, individuals express a need for identity through social media or the rise of extremism.
One might choose to see this as a risk of fragmentation, but also as an expression of a need for belonging.
Multifamily therapy (MFT) is a demanding practice that has proven, through the richness of its potential, that it reconnects individuals within new groups of belonging that promote solidarity, mutual aid, and collective identity.
The 3rd European MFT Conference in Paris 2027 will be an opportunity for European MFT professionals—whether they work in social, educational, or clinical settings—to meet, find inspiration, and share ideas.
